Camp RISE

Special Needs Summer Camp 2018

The mission of Camp RISE (Recreation Integrated into Social Experiences) is to provide an opportunity for children with physical, intellectual, developmental, and/or other health impairments to increase their social, cognitive, gross and fine motor skills in a safe, supportive environment. The goal is to promote wellness and independent living skills, as well as build self-esteem, confidence, and a connection to their community.

Campers will participate in daily activities including, but not limited to, games, sports, arts and crafts, and nature. The program will be led by Camp Director, Desirée Daigle. A group of adult professional counselors plus volunteers will assist the Director, and a nurse will be on site at all times.

Students participating in Camp RISE who are also enrolled in the summer ESY program at either Hatton Elementary or Southington High School will be bussed directly to South End School for camp each day. Transportation will otherwise not be provided. All students will need to be picked up at South End School by a parent/guardian (or other designated adult) each day at 3:00 pm.

The program will be broken down into two separate sessions: The first session will be for students entering Grades 2-5. The second session will be for students entering Grades 6-12 (students up to age 21 who are participating in programs at SHS are also eligible to register). Both sessions are open to Southington residents only.

Session 1: Grades 2-5


Dates: Monday & Tuesday, July 2 & 3 and Monday-Thursday, July 9-12
Time: 12:15 pm - 3:00 pm
Location: South End Elementary School, Maxwell Noble Dr., Plantsville
Cost: $90.00 per child

Session 2: Grades 6-12


Dates: Monday-Thursday, July 16-19 and July 23-26
Time: 12:15 pm - 3:00 pm
Location: South End Elementary School, Maxwell Noble Dr., Plantsville
Cost: $120.00 per child

Registration Information

  • Registration & Medical Forms (Required)
  • Completed/signed registration & medical forms must be submitted along with payment in full to the Recreation Department by 4:30 pm on Friday, June 15, 2018.
  • Register By Mail:  Southington Recreation Dept., P.O. Box 571, Southington, CT 06489
  • Register In Person:  Southington Town Hall, 75 Main St. (2nd Floor)
  • A maximum of 25 campers will be accepted into each session and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Please call the office at (860) 276-6219 with any questions or to reserve a space for your child in this program.
