Southington Community Services

For Services, Call For An Appointment
In order to insure adequate time is provided to discuss your concerns, please call the office at (860) 276-6271 to schedule an appointment.  You may need to bring in proof of residency and/or proof of income.

Clothing, Domestics, Toys, Etc.
Clean donations arrive daily.  Items vary depending on availability.  No appointment necessary to pick up items.

Food Pantry
Families or individuals who qualify for the food pantry may come in once a week for food during normal office hours.  No appointment is necessary.

Donations
Donations of needed items are always welcome during office hours.  Call ahead to insure staff availability.  Make checks payable to Southington Community Services.  Monetary donations can be mailed to:  Southington Community Services, 75 Main Street, Southington, CT  06489.

Energy Assistance

  • Federal Energy Assistance - For deliverable fuel, applications may be submitted from early October to mid-March.  For non-deliverable fuel, applications may be submitted from early November to mid-April.
  • Emergency Energy Assistance - Applications may be submitted year-round.

Emergency Services
Southington Community Services (SCS) provides resources for residents of Southington during times of need.  The SCS staff will discuss and sort through problems that individuals and/or families are experiencing and provides services and/or referrals they may need to deal with those problems.  Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Eviction prevention
  • Medical assistance
  • Utility assistance
  • Transportation
  • Shelter

Helping Hands
The Hartford's employees and SCS join together to assist Southington residents.  This program helps with yard work and/or house cleaning for families in need each year.  Apply from March 1st to May 1st each year.

Holiday Programs

  • Easter - Apply February 1st to mid-March
  • Back to School - Apply July 1st to mid-August
  • Thanksgiving - Apply September 1st to mid-November
  • Christmas - Apply September 1st to early December

School Related Programs

  • Inside Rebecca's Bag - This program will assist qualified Southington residents with higher education costs associated with books and supplies.
  • Kristen's Kloset - This program partnership with Southington Youth Services assists students with prom items and clothes needed to attend school functions.  Kristen's Kloset is one of several programs that will start in the near future under Kristen's Wishes.
  • Smart Start - This program prepares Southington students entering grades K-12 with new backpacks.  Applications start each year on July 1st.

Summer Camp

  • The Salvation Army CONNRI Lodge is a 5 day/4 night retreat for adults age 50 and older.
  • The Salvation Army Camp CONNRI is a one-week overnight camp for children ages 7-11.  This camp is free of charge.
  • Southington Parks & Recreation has a two-week day camp.  SCS certifies low-income families to be eligible for a reduced fee.
