Open Space Opportunities in the Town of Southington:

  • The Curtiss property is located on the east side of South End Road just past the Curtiss Family farm stand.  The site offers a shallow pond skirted by briar thickets suitable for bird watching and an established trail lies within the property.  An open field is also present that offers unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape.

  • The Korin property is located off of East Street and is accessible through Copper Ridge Road (at the end of the cul-de-sac) and through the YMCA Camp Sloper property via the yellow trail with parking in the Memorial Forest lot.  The site has significant topographic relief and has a well established trail.  The area is a great place for wildlife observation and quiet daytime hiking.  Please respect the wetlands on site and leave nothing but footprints behind.

  • The Marion Avenue property is located on Marion Avenue south of Meriden Waterbury Turnpike.  This site is primarily thick brush with a brook bisecting it.  No established trails are present, but the site is an important addition to the town's open space inventory for its habitat values and wetland resources.

  • The Crescent Lake property is located off of Shuttle Meadow Road in the northeastern part of the town.  Ample parking is available and established trails run throughout the site.  The property offers catch and release fishing, canoeing, picnicking, and hiking opportunities.

  • The Novick property is located off of Flanders Road in the eastern part of town.  This large tract is accessible from Flanders Road and offers significant views of the valley below.  Some trails are present within the parcel and water features include Patton Brook and associated wetlands.  The site is a former orchard and offers great diversity in its habitat.
