Board of Assessment Appeals

As its name implies, the Board of Assessment Appeals (BOAA) is the body that hears and decides upon appeals related to assessment matters. Southington's board contains three (3) elected members who work independently of the Assessor's Office. The board meets during the month of March to hear appeals related to Real Estate, Personal Property taxes on the preceding grand list date of October 1st. They additionally hear appeals related to the supplemental motor vehicle taxes that would have been billed 2 months earlier in January. In September, the board convenes once more to hear appeals on the motor vehicle taxes on the preceding grand list date of October 1st.

The requirements of the board are very thoroughly detailed in state statute. Similarly, the requirements of taxpayers who wish to have their appeal heard are also detailed. The fillable PDF documents below were designed to capture all the information required on an appeal application. If any field is left blank, your appeal will not be heard. Please feel free to contact the Assessor's Office with any questions you may have pertaining to the process.
