Food Pantry

Giving a helping hand to Southington residents in need

Southington residents can sign up for the food pantry by calling our office at 860-628-3761 and scheduling an appointment. You will only need to bring proof of residency to your appointment to sign up for the food pantry.  During your appointment you will be asked to fill out a Household Declaration of Need Form (CT-NAP). This form must be completed annually. Form renewal begins on July 1st of each year.

Southington Community Services collects and distributes approximately 38,000 pounds of food every month. This food feeds those in need, home-bound, families, seniors, homeless and many more.

During 2013, we took in over 450,000 pounds of food at a cost of $81,800. These monies are raised during the Salvation Army bell ringing in November and December and donations to our agency. Our pantry served nearly 70 families a day or 5,250 families annually (13,452 individuals).

The success of our food pantry depends upon food donations from the community and purchases from Foodshare. Donors include: United Way, Calvanese Foundation, Foodshare, wholesale distributors, grocery stores, schools, scouts, retail stores, businesses, civic groups, individuals and more.

Donations can be dropped off at the Community Center between 8:30 to 4:30, Monday through Friday, and arrangements can be made for weekend drop offs. If you are dropping off a large donation, our staff will come out to lend you a helping hand.

Financial donations are gratefully accepted and 100% of your money goes for client use. No administrative cost is taken from donations. Checks can be made payable to either:
Southington Community Services or Southington Salvation Army

The food pantry accepts both perishable and non-perishable food donations. We receive most of our food from local donors. Southington is a wonderful place to live in and town residents are always lending a hand. Thank you for your past support and thank you in advance for your future support. Southington Community Services, along with the Clergy Association of Southington, has made a weekend feeding program available to those that are homeless.

For more than 50 years, the residents of Southington have supported the Southington Community Services Food Pantry to assist their neighbors, friends and relatives in need with food, both perishable and non-perishable, and personal hygiene products. Since November of 2008, we have occupied the space formally known as Milldale #3 Fire Station, located at 91 Norton Street in Plantsville, view map.

In September look for our calendar of ideas. September is hunger action month.
