Free Income Tax Preparation
THIS SERVICE IS UNAVAILABLE FOR THE 2024 TAX SEASON
Southington Community Services, in partnership with Human Resources Agency (HRA) of New Britain, offers free income tax preparation services to income-eligible families and individuals. This program runs annually from mid-February until the beginning of April. You may be eligible for free tax preparation services including e-file and direct deposit. In order to prepare your taxes, you need to make an appointment. You will need to call the Human Resource Agency of New Britain (860- 826-2278) and let them know that you are calling to make an appointment to be seen at Southington Community Services (91 Norton Street). The appointments will be scheduled on Monday mornings. They will let you know if you meet their income guidelines.
In order for HRA to assist you with your tax return, you will have to have the following items (if they pertain to your situation):
• Valid driver’s license or photo identification
• Social security card(s) or individual taxpayer ID number(s) for all household members
• Records of all income (W-2’s, 1099’s, etc.)
• Last year’s tax return (if you have one)
• Child care provider name, address and tax ID or Social Security number
• Education expenses and student loan information
• For direct deposit, a checking or saving account number and routing number
• If filing a joint return, both spouses must be present
