Children's Shopping Party

The Children’s Shopping Party is usually held on the first Wednesday evening of December in the cafeteria of Southington High School from 5-7 p.m.  If school is cancelled that day due to inclement weather, the event is also cancelled. To attend this party, you must be on the Southington Community Service holiday list.

Southington Community Services accepts donations of unused items for this program year- round. If you have a few items that for some reason were put away and never used, not liked or not needed, drop them off at our office, 91 Norton Street, Plantsville, and let someone know those items are for the Children’s Shopping Party.  Some ideas of gift items include candles, jewelry, perfume, gloves, lotions, household items, sports items, decorative items, etc.

This popular program enables qualified children in Southington to learn the joy of giving. They are able to shop, at no cost, for their parents, grandparents, siblings, or caregivers.  Each child can pick up to three gifts and wrap them with the help of volunteers. These presents are for them to put under their tree.

The Rotary Club of Southington, the Grace Methodist Church of Southington and the knitters from Spring Lake Village partner with Southington Community Services to complete the evening. The Rotary Club of Southington provides the families with pizza and soda, the Grace Methodist Church provides a craft workshop while the children wait for their turn to shop and to see Santa.  The knitters from Spring Lake Village hand out gloves, scarfs and hats to both children and adults.

Santa Claus always makes an appearance, along with his Elf who hands out reading books, coloring books and crayons, and candy canes to all the children.
