STEAM Camps (Summer 2023)

The Southington Recreation Department, in conjunction with Exceptional Youth Educational Services (EYES), is pleased to offer summer S.T.E.A.M. Camps Using LEGO® for children ages 5-10. There are no residency requirements to participate.

S.T.E.A.M. is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics to guide student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

ages 5-6:  Building up STEAM

Children work independently and cooperatively as they begin to explore simple machines using LEGO® DUPLO® early childhood materials. Projects may include spin tops, motorcycles, and hockey players.

    $145.00 per non-resident child

Ages 7-10:  STEAM Works

Children are working with standard LEGO® materials to problem solve pre-engineeering challenges involving structure, levers, gears, pulleys, and other elements of simple machines. Projects may include drawbridges, flywheel cars, and amusement park rides.

Registration Information

  • Space is limited. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Registration forms will be accepted online, by mail, or in person at the Recreation Department office at 388 Pleasant Street, Southington (inside the Calendar House Senior Center).
  • Forms and payments are due by 4:30 pm on Friday, August 4, 2023.
