Playground Program (Summer 2023)

NOTICE:  Please be aware that this program will require students to walk to Memorial Park daily for morning activities (on sidewalks, accompanied by staff; weather-permitting) and walk back to DePaolo Middle School for lunch and afternoon activities. The distance is approximately a 1/2 mile each direction. If your child is unable or unwilling to make this walk daily, DO NOT REGISTER for this program. All staff and students will be leaving the school property and no one will be permitted to stay behind. There is no vehicle transportation available.

The Playground Program is open to Southington resident children, ages 5-12.

The program will be held rain or shine, Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, at DePaolo Middle School* (385 Pleasant Street, Southington).

*This program is normally held at South End School/Recreation Park. The location has been moved to DePaolo for 2023 only due to the pool facilities at Recreation Park being closed for renovations. We will utilize the pool facilities at Memorial Park instead this year.

Registration   Program FAQ

2023 Program Dates and FeesThe program is comprised of three separate 2-week sessions. Each child may be registered for a maximum of two sessions (4 weeks).

  • SESSION ONE: June 26-July 7*
  • SESSION TWO: July 10-21
  • SESSION THREE: July 24-August 4

The cost for each 2-week session is $150.00 per child. There are no sibling discounts available.

Financial aid may be available to those who qualify through Southington Community Services. Please make an appointment with the Community Services office at (860) 628-3761 to determine eligibility.

*No program on Tuesday, July 4 due to the Independence Day holiday.

*A field trip to Apple Valley Bowl (Plantsville) will be scheduled on one day during each of the three sessions. Bus transportation will be provided to/from the bowling alley. Field trip fees are not included in the general registration fee. The associated fees will be announced at the beginning of each session and will be collected by program staff on the day of the trip (cash only). All children & program staff will be leaving the school premises on field trip days. Children who do not wish to participate in the field trip will not be able to attend the Playground Program on that day.
